Is gold forbidden for a woman if she has a lot of it?

It is permissible for a woman to own gold, and Zakat (2.5%) is obligatory on it if it exceeds normal usage and reaches the point of extravagance; because it then becomes a treasure, and Allah has threatened those who hoard gold and silver and do not pay their Zakat with a painful torment. As for gold intended for personal use, the preponderant opinion among scholars is that there is no Zakat on it, but paying Zakat out of piety and to avoid disagreement is more cautious and absolves one's responsibility.
