It is permissible for a woman to acquire any ornaments she desires, provided that it is not considered extravagance in the custom of women like her, and that it is not limited to a specific amount, according to the preponderant opinion. This is based on the general statement of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him: "Gold and silk have been made lawful for the females of my nation and forbidden for its males."

This does not fall under the purview of the verse: "And those who hoard gold and silver and spend it not in the way of Allah – give them tidings of a painful punishment" (Quran 9:34), because the verse refers to those who hoard wealth and do not pay its zakat.

As for the zakat on ornaments acquired for adornment, there is a difference of opinion. The majority of scholars hold that zakat is not obligatory on it, while Abu Hanifa and others hold that it is obligatory. The latter opinion is more cautious and absolves one of responsibility. If a woman chooses the opinion of obligation, she should pay one-quarter of one-tenth (2.5%) of its value when one lunar year has passed.
