Is zakat on money obligatory for gold allocated for adornment, and not intended for savings, after it has been distributed to daughters?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

The majority of scholars hold that zakat is not obligatory on a woman's jewelry intended for adornment, whether it is used constantly or only for special occasions. This view is narrated from five Companions. However, Imam Abu Hanifa and some contemporary scholars are of the opinion that zakat is obligatory on it, citing as evidence the hadith of Abdullah ibn Amr ibn al-Aas concerning gold bracelets. It is preferable for those who have the means to pay zakat, in order to avoid disagreement and to prioritize the rights of the poor.
