Am I obligated to divorce my wife because she doesn't listen to me and constantly shouts under the pretext of wanting to sleep, especially given that my work outside the home extends for long hours?
The marital relationship should be based on understanding, affection, mercy, and good companionship from both parties, as Allah Almighty says: (And live with them in kindness) An-Nisa/19, and His saying: (And due to them [the wives] is similar to what is expected of them, according to what is reasonable) Al-Baqarah/228. Accordingly, children should be separated from the bedroom as much as possible, and one should not spend the night in amusement after returning from work; because this time is for the wife's sleep after the fatigue of the day and her service to the house and children. In return, the wife must not raise her voice at her husband and should request her rights gently, and they should speak to each other in a way that brings affection and strengthens marital bonds.
