Does tidying up the husband's belongings after he regularly scatters them fall under the wife's service, especially if this is difficult for her and she was not accustomed to it before marriage?

The jurists differed on the obligation of a wife to serve her husband. The relied-upon opinion is that service is obligatory according to what is customary, which varies with circumstances and customs. So, she must serve him with the service that is customary for someone like her to someone like him.

This service is not a favor but rather justice, because the husband is obligated to provide for the family and strive to earn a living. Marital life is based on integration; each is both a servant and served.

The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, ruled between Ali and Fatimah, may Allah be pleased with them both, assigning the household service to Fatimah and the external service to Ali.

Cooperation between spouses is recommended, such that the man helps his wife and keeps his belongings tidy to lighten her burden. It was part of the Prophet’s guidance, peace and blessings be upon him, to assist his family with household service.

If the woman is someone who does not serve herself due to her high status or illness, then the husband is obligated to provide a servant for her.

Marital life should be based on understanding and affection, so that each may bring happiness to the other.
