What is the authenticity of the story about a jinn approaching the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, in the form of a snake, whispering in his ear, the Prophet responding to it, and then telling his noble companions: "Rather, it was one of the jinn, who had forgotten some verses"?

The story mentioned about the Prophet's supplication to a snake is part of a long narration reported by Abu al-Qasim al-Sahmi al-Jurjani and al-Khatib al-Baghdadi. This narration is considered munkar (denounced/rejected). Al-Dhahabi said: "Ishaq ibn al-Salt narrated a very denounced report from Malik. And the chain of narration to him is obscure."
