Is it permissible to read the Qur'an while it is placed on the thigh or the knee for worshippers sitting in the mosque?

It is permissible to place the Mushaf (copy of the Qur’an) on the thigh or knee during recitation, as this is not considered a desecration. In fact, it may be easier and more comfortable for the reader, while still taking precautions against it falling to the ground. Sheikh Ibn Uthaymeen mentioned the permissibility of placing the Mushaf in a pocket, provided it is not near the buttocks when sitting, and that it can be placed on the thigh.
