Is it permissible for an employee who is late for work—and has been considered absent—to sign the attendance register for the days he was late but did attend work, and what is the ruling regarding his salary if he does so? And what should he do if his lateness recurs due to circumstances beyond his control?
It is not permissible for an employee to take wages for days or hours not worked, unless the work system allows it, or if there is an agreement with their management; based on the words of Allah Almighty: "O you who have believed, fulfill [all] contracts," and the words of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him: "Muslims are bound by their conditions." Whoever has done this must repent and regret, and return the portion of the salary corresponding to the time not worked to the competent financial authority, or spend it on public welfare, such as giving it to the poor, if it is known that the entity will not place it in its proper place. The management should be informed about the recurrence of this matter.
