How can a woman return to her husband after he has divorced her five times while she is pregnant?

If the husband repeats the word of divorce intending its repetition, then three divorces occur, and the wife becomes irrevocably divorced from him, meaning he cannot take her back unless she marries another man willingly, and then he divorces her or dies, and her waiting period expires.

However, if he intended by the repetition to emphasize or inform of the occurrence of the first divorce, then only one divorce occurs, and he can take her back before the expiry of her waiting period if he has not divorced her more than once.

Ibn Qudamah mentioned that if someone says to a wife with whom he has consummated marriage, "You are divorced, you are divorced," then two divorces are binding upon him, unless he intended by the second pronouncement to emphasize or to inform her of the occurrence of the first, in which case only one divorce occurs. If he had no intention, then two divorces occur.

This is according to the majority of scholars, in contrast to Ibn Taymiyyah, who held that only one divorce occurs with such pronouncements.
