Is it considered a shortcoming and a sin for a wife to leave her husband's home, where her husband's brothers and nephew reside, and move to her parents' home where her father lives, even if she visits her husband's family weekly to attend to their needs? And must she obey her husband if he compels her to live in his family's home under these circumstances?

It is the wife's right to reside in a suitable, independent dwelling. The husband does not have the right to compel her to live with his family, and she is not obliged to obey him in this matter. Indeed, it is not permissible for her to live with them if it exposes her to unlawful seclusion (khalwa) or prohibited mixing (ikhtilat) with the husband's brother or nephew. The wife is not obligated to serve her husband's family, but if she volunteers to do so, it is considered an act of benevolence.
