Is it better for the Friday sermon to be limited to admonitions, or to include jurisprudential issues that people need?

The essence of the Friday sermon is admonition, remembrance, the affirmation of the principles of faith, instilling love for Allah in His creation, mentioning His blessings, and discussing Paradise and Hellfire. The preacher should also teach people the religious rulings they need.

Ibn al-Qayyim clarified that the sermons of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, taught the Companions the foundations and laws of Islam, commanded and forbade them, and were in accordance with the needs and interests of the audience.

Furthermore, his sermons focused on faith in Allah, His angels, His books, His messengers, and the Last Day, thereby filling hearts with faith, monotheism, and knowledge of Allah.

The sermons of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and those of the Companions, were sufficient in clarifying guidance and monotheism, mentioning the attributes of the Lord and the universal principles of faith, inviting to Allah, mentioning His bounties and His days, and enjoining His remembrance and gratitude, thus making Allah beloved to His creation and making His creation beloved to Him.
