What are the characteristics of the turban, and is it permissible to prostrate upon it entirely, or must part of the forehead touch the ground? And does its ruling apply to the skullcap and other head coverings such as the ghutra?

The turban is distinguished by letting its end hang loose and wrapping it under the chin to protect the neck from heat and cold, and to keep it firm when riding horses and camels. Among its etiquettes are taking it with the right hand, saying Bismillah, and the reported remembrances, and that its length be seven cubits. It is not permissible to let it hang down out of arrogance, and letting it hang down in this context means extending its tails beyond the usual custom, with its limit being to the middle of the back. No authentic hadith has been reported regarding the virtue of the turban, and everything reported about it is weak or fabricated.
