What should one do who suffers from frequently looking at unveiled women, and is unable to lower his gaze at many times?
If a person is afflicted with a poisoned wound (such as passionate love), they must do what will remove the poison and heal the wound. This can be achieved through several means, including:
1. Marriage, based on the Prophet's (peace and blessings be upon him) saying: "If one of you sees the beauty of a woman, he should go to his wife, for she has the same as she [the other woman] has."
2. Persevering in the five daily prayers, supplicating, and humbly entreating Allah during the pre-dawn hours with presence and devotion. Also, frequently recite the supplication: "O Turner of hearts, keep my heart steadfast upon Your religion," and "O Disposer of hearts, turn my heart towards Your obedience and the obedience of Your Messenger." Supplication diverts the heart from passionate love, as Allah Almighty says: "Thus [it was] that We might avert from him evil and immorality. Indeed, he was one of Our sincere servants." (Surat Yusuf, 24)
3. Keeping oneself away from places where immodestly dressed women are present, and from channels and other media that display images that affect and weaken the heart.
