Is it permissible to delay paying Zakat on money until Ramadan, out of desire to multiply the reward, knowing that the time it becomes due is before Ramadan?

If a year passes while one possesses the minimum taxable amount (nisab), it is obligatory to disburse the zakat immediately. It is not permissible to delay it if one is able, for in doing so there is a hastening towards forgiveness, a discharge of one's duty, and the fulfillment of the needs of the poor. It is not permissible to delay the disbursement of zakat after the completion of the year unless there is a legitimate excuse, such as the absence of the poor at the time of the year's completion, the inability to deliver it, or the absence of the wealth. As for delaying it for the sake of Ramadan, it is not permissible unless the period is short, such as if the year's completion falls in the second half of Sha'ban, in which case there is no harm in delaying it until Ramadan.
