What is the ruling on one who claims the perishing of Paradise or Hell, and is there an interpretation for him that would excuse him and prevent his excommunication?

The statement that Paradise and Hellfire will perish is an innovated saying, contrary to the belief of the People of the Sunnah and the Community. Some scholars have explicitly stated that professing it leads to apostasy, because it rejects the texts indicating their eternal nature. The People of the Sunnah and the Community have unanimously agreed on their eternal nature, while Jahm ibn Safwan alone held this view.
