The preponderant view among the People of the Sunnah and the Community (Ahl al-Sunnah wa al-Jama'ah) is that Paradise and Hellfire will not perish. The assertion that Hellfire will cease to exist cannot be correctly attributed to Sheikh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah; rather, he held the view of their eternity. As for Ibn al-Qayyim, he had two opinions on the matter, and the preponderant view is that he recanted the opinion of Hellfire perishing and settled on the opinion of its eternity. Furthermore, the narrations reported from some of the Salaf regarding the perishing of Hellfire are not authentic.
