Is it permissible for the one being led in prayer to separate from the imam and perform the prostration of forgetfulness if the imam does not perform it after a flaw occurs in the prayer, or must he follow the imam and not prostrate?

Scholars have differed concerning the prostration of a follower (ma'mum) if the Imam omits the prostration of forgetfulness (sujud al-sahw). The correct view, according to the majority, is that the follower should prostrate to compensate for the deficiency in their prayer. The follower should prostrate after the Imam has given the salutation of peace (taslim) and there is no hope of the Imam performing the prostration. As for the latecomer (masbuq), they should prostrate after they have completed what they missed.
