Is it permissible to seek help from a person who claims the ability to detect sorcerers and harm them through supplication, and who describes people afflicted by jinn possession or sorcery by instructing them to put salt, sugar, or oil upon which Quran has been recited into their food?

This young man is a charlatan, a soothsayer, and a diviner who claims knowledge of the unseen and of sorcerers by their names. He is either a liar or he seeks help from jinn. Benefit and harm are in the hand of Allah alone. The words he recites are not a legitimate ruqyah because their nature is unknown. The fact that he does not ask for payment does not indicate his truthfulness. One should not be deceived by the testimony of the common folk; rather, the criterion is the judgment of scholars and students of knowledge. It is not permissible to go to him or seek his help. Whoever goes to him, their prayer will not be accepted for forty days, and if one believes him, they have committed disbelief.
