A sorcerer and charlatan can be identified by several signs, including: claiming knowledge of the unseen, lack of uprightness, and frequent lying, especially concerning women, such as committing unlawful acts with them. Among their signs are also: asking for the person's mother's name, using incense and strange substances, writing Quranic verses with impurities, demanding sacrifices to other than Allah, wearing large rings, not performing ghusl after major ritual impurity, muttering strange words, and using symbols and talismans, and they may pretend to recite the Quran as a deception.
