"The conversation between young men and women can lead to the arousal of desires and the attachment of hearts. Caution is therefore necessary, and one should avoid mingling with non-mahram individuals. As for a woman offering herself in marriage to a man, this is impermissible except for the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him. If the intention is for her to accept him as a husband, then this is permissible, but they both must realize that they are non-mahram to each other before the marriage contract, and what is forbidden between non-mahram individuals remains forbidden."
