Does the elephant fall under the hadith prohibiting the consumption of every predatory animal with fangs, and why was the crocodile forbidden despite living in water?

The majority of scholars are of the opinion that eating elephant meat is forbidden, because it is a carnivore with fangs, and it is considered repulsive. Some scholars, however, deem it disliked or permissible. As for the crocodile, the majority of jurists from the Hanafis, Shafi'is, and Hanbalis prohibit its consumption because it preys with its fangs, and due to its repulsiveness and harm.
