Is it permissible for the husband to equalize the financial support (nafaqah) between his wife and children, and his other wife’s family and her mother’s friend, under the pretext of their need? And will the wife be rewarded if she agrees to this? And what are the husband’s financial obligations towards his wife and children besides food and drink?

It is obligatory for a husband to be just between his wives in terms of sustenance and clothing, according to the needs of each one of them. He is not obligated to be just in anything beyond that. Therefore, he is not required to treat the family of his other wife equally if he has shown kindness or given charity to the family of his first wife. As for a woman's contentment with her husband favoring the family of her co-wife in giving, it is hoped that she will be rewarded for this, because it is an act of being content with a divine decree, which is unanimously considered desirable, and contentment with divine decree is among the highest peaks of faith.
