What is the ruling on buying and playing with fireworks?

There is no harm in selling, buying, and playing with fireworks and firecrackers in a safe manner, as long as they do not frighten a Muslim, cause harm, or distract from an obligation. However, it is prohibited if their price is exorbitant, because that is considered a form of extravagance, which is forbidden.
