The question

Why are the problems of those around me resolved while my problems increase, even though I was committed to obedience, but have now become lax in performing acts of worship, while those around me were like me, yet their problems are being resolved?

The answer

Trials for a believer are a sign of Allah's love and an expiation for sins, whereas the bestowal of blessings upon a disobedient person may be a gradual enticement (istidraj). The people who are most severely tested are the prophets, then the righteous, and so on. A man is tested according to the strength of his faith. Allah Almighty said: "Do they think that because We extend to them wealth and children, We hasten to them with good things? Rather, they perceive not." Do not despair of relief, for Allah laughs at the despair of His servants when His relief is near. Beware of complaining about Allah's decrees, be thankful for His blessings, and return to observing prayer with humility.
