Does the wife's father have the right to forbid his wife to himself if his daughter's wedding takes place on the scheduled date, and what should be done in this situation?
People's practice has been to agree upon the obligations of each party in the marriage contract and the date of consummation. It is obligatory to adhere to the agreement, for the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "The conditions most worthy of fulfillment are those by which you make intimate relations lawful." If the husband fulfills his obligations, it is not permissible for the wife or her guardian to breach the agreement, such as postponing the date of consummation, except with his consent. The husband has the right to hold the wedding at its appointed time if he has fulfilled his obligations, and her guardian is not permitted to prevent him. The woman, however, may withhold herself until she receives her immediate dower. The husband is advised to wait and postpone the wedding until the beginning of the next Hijri year if the wife's father has sworn by divorce to postpone it, in order to avoid complicating the problem.
