Is it permissible for the bride's family to compel the couple to a specific wedding date in order to fulfill their personal desires for engaging in innovations (bid'ah) and visiting the bride, even if the previous date was suitable?

If the marriage contract has been concluded, then the best approach is for the two families to agree on a wedding date by mutual consent. If they differ, the decision rests with the spouses, and the opinion of the one who wishes to hasten the marriage should be prioritized. This is because it is not permissible for the wife to deny herself to her husband if he requests her, as long as he has given her the dower. Similarly, it is not permissible for the husband to refuse to take his wife if she offers herself to him.

However, if the husband has not paid the dower, the wife has the right to deny herself until she receives it. If the parents order the wife to hasten the consummation, she must obey them, due to the good contained therein. As for what she fears regarding the practice of certain innovations (bid‘ah), she must advise against them and refrain from following her family in that, because there is no obedience to a creature in disobedience to the Creator, provided she verifies that they are indeed innovations.
