What are the factors that contribute to a good ending?

The pursuit of a good ending and the fear of a bad ending have preoccupied the righteous. The path to this is faith in Allah and adherence to His law, by performing what is commanded and abandoning what is forbidden. For whoever remains steadfast, "the angels will descend upon them, [saying], 'Do not fear and do not grieve but receive good tidings of Paradise, which you were promised.'" Among the assisting factors are also having good expectations of Allah, relying on Him for steadfastness in religion and guidance, and striving in supplication that He grant the servant a good end.
