How can the two authentic narrations in Sunan an-Nasa'i be reconciled, one of which indicates the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, received the concluding verses of Surat al-Baqarah on the Night of Isra and Mi'raj along with the prayers, and the other mentions an angel descending with them while Jibreel, peace be upon him, was with him?

Gabriel (peace be upon him) brought down the entire Qur’an to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), including the concluding verses of Surat Al-Baqarah, which were revealed in Medina.

Scholars differed in interpreting the hadith of Ibn Mas'ud regarding the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) being given the concluding verses of Surat Al-Baqarah on the night of Al-Mi'raj. Some of them went on to say that Allah revealed them to him directly, and then they were brought down by Gabriel. Others went on to say that the giving was an announcement or glad tidings of their revelation.

Scholars also differed in interpreting the hadith of Ibn Abbas regarding an angel descending from heaven with the glad tidings for the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) of Al-Fatiha and the concluding verses of Surat Al-Baqarah. Some of them went on to say that the descent was with the verses themselves, while others went on to say that it was with the glad tidings of their merit.

It is clear from the foregoing that the concluding verses of Surat Al-Baqarah are Medinan, and that Allah's giving them to His Prophet on the night of Al-Mi'raj could mean direct revelation followed by their later descent, or the glad tidings of their descent. And the hadith of Ibn Abbas could mean the descent of the verses or the descent of their merit.
