Is the Dead Sea region, or the Jordan Valley, in Jordan the location of Lot's people? Is there conclusive evidence for that? And is it permissible to go, sit, and pray in such locations?

It is disliked to visit the Dead Sea for tourism or recreation if it is the location of the the villages of the people of Lot, due to what is authentically reported from the Prophet, may Allah’s prayers and peace be upon him, when he passed by the dwellings of Thamud: “Do not enter the dwellings of those who wronged themselves, unless you are weeping, lest what befell them should befall you.” It is also desirable to hasten when passing through such places. Similarly, praying in them is disliked. However, if a Muslim does not believe it to be the location of the villages of Lot, this does not mean it is permissible to visit it unconditionally, as it contains reprehensible acts such as nudity and mixing of sexes, unless a place free from these reprehensible acts can be found.
