Did Muawiyah—may Allah be pleased with him—steal from the treasury of the Muslims, and did Abu Sufyan steal? And did Abu Sufyan lie to Umar—may Allah be pleased with them both—even though he did not lie in the pre-Islamic era and said: "I do not recall committing any sin after embracing Islam"?

This story has not been found in references except for what is mentioned in "Al-Mukhallasiyat" and "Tarikh Dimashq" by Ibn Asakir. Its chain of narration includes Sa'id ibn Dawud, who is weak and narrates Munkarat (denounced narrations). It has been said about him: "Trustworthy, but has Munkarat from Malik, and some of his hadith became mixed up for him." Abdullah ibn Nafi' accused him of lying, and Abu Muhammad said: "He narrated fabricated hadith from Malik, and he is not to be used as a source."
