Why can't the Holy Quran be translated into other languages, and why do some insist on calling it "translation of the meanings of the Quran" instead of "translation of the Quran"?

Translating the meanings of the Holy Quran into other languages is permissible and is a communal obligation (fard kifayah), due to the universality of the Prophet's message (peace be upon him) and because all people are addressed by the Quran, and this translation facilitates their understanding of it.

However, translating it literally is not permissible because other languages cannot encompass the styles of the Arabic language, such as literal meanings, metaphors, allusions, and similes. Furthermore, the writing of the Quran is divinely ordained, and the Holy Quran was revealed in a clear Arabic tongue. If it were to be written with the words of another language, it would no longer be the Quran.
