Is it permissible to say that a translation of the Holy Quran is the Quran itself?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

It is not permissible to call a translation of the meanings of the Holy Quran "Quran," because it does not take the ruling of the Quran in terms of the obligation of purity for touching it. It is merely a translation of the meanings and not a true Quran. The Quran is the wording and meaning revealed to Muhammad, peace be upon him. As for the meaning alone, it is not called Quran, and it is not permissible to apply the word "Quran" to a translation except metaphorically.
