What is the ruling on listening to the Holy Qur’an accompanied by translation, and what is the ruling on listening to the translation alone?

The Qur’an cannot be translated in a way that perfectly mirrors its precise expression and miraculous nature. Rather, translations are interpretations of its meanings. For this reason, it is permissible for a person in a state of ritual impurity (junub) or a non-believer (kafir) to touch a translation of the meanings of the Qur’an in a language other than Arabic, or to touch a commentary (tafsir) of it in Arabic. Listening to a translation alone, or alongside the recitation of the Qur’an, is permissible and even desirable for understanding and contemplating the Qur’an. This is provided that the translation is undertaken by scholars who are trustworthy in their knowledge and piety, as many translations may be weak, flawed, or distort the meaning.
