Is revelation exclusive to the Messengers alone? And what is the proof of that?

Revelation has two meanings: a specific one and a general one.

The specific meaning: The revelation of legislation, which is exclusive to prophets and messengers only, and occurs through the sending of Gabriel to them.

The general meaning: Inspiration, visions, and divine communication, which applies to prophets and others, such as Allah's inspiration to the bees, the mother of Moses, and the disciples.

There are three categories of revelation as mentioned by Allah in the Quran:

1. Revelation of swift inspiration and notification: This is not exclusive to prophets; it applies to them and to others.

2. Speaking from behind a veil: This is specific to Moses, peace be upon him.

3. Sending a messenger (Gabriel): This is specific to humans.

One must distinguish between the revelation from the Most Merciful and the revelation from Satan, for prophets are the ones who differentiate between them.
