What is the ruling on verifying answers with a friend during an exam?

It is not permissible for you or your friends to exchange answers during exams, because that is cheating and a betrayal of trust. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Whoever cheats us is not of us." Cheating in exams falls under the generality of this warning and is considered one of the major sins.
