This fear is a whisper (waswasa), for every Muslim reveres the Prophet and loves him more than anyone else. Your love for the Imam stems from your belief that he guides you to the Sunnah of the Prophet. The reason for loving scholars is their adherence to the Prophet and their magnification of his guidance, and it is inconceivable that your love for them could surpass your love for the Prophet. To overcome this feeling, reflect on his perfections and great morals, and that he was the highest model of human perfection, and that he is the closest of creation to Allah. Read frequently about his unique qualities, his biography, his Sunnah, and his hadiths. Send many blessings upon him, and recall the immense favor of Allah upon us by his mission, which brought us out of darkness into light.
