Is it permissible to skip Friday prayer in order to participate in a volunteer campaign to repair essential water channels, on the pretext that this work cannot be done on other days and that the rains are fast approaching?

Friday prayer is obligatory upon resident men, and it is not permissible to miss it except for a legitimate Shar'i excuse such as illness or travel. Allah has warned those who fail to attend it and are negligent about it that He will seal their hearts and make them among the heedless. Repairing water is not an acceptable excuse to miss Friday prayer, as that can be done on a day other than Friday. If there is difficulty in going for Friday prayer and returning to work, then there is no harm; otherwise, it is obligatory to attend it.
