Is it permissible to be absent from Friday prayer due to rain?

It is permissible to miss the Friday prayer due to rain that causes discomfort. The proof for this is the action of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and the statement of Ibn Abbas to his muezzin on a rainy day to say: "Pray in your homes." The four Madhhabs (schools of thought) have agreed on this; severe rain or mud that wets clothes and makes walking difficult is considered an excuse that exempts one from the obligation of attending the Friday prayer.
