What is the ruling on paying deferred expiations for oaths (kaffarat al-ayman) in installments, and is it permissible to give them to one person?

If you are unable to pay the expiation (kaffarah) in a single installment, it is permissible to pay it in installments as per your ability, for Allah says: "Allah does not burden a soul beyond its capacity." It is not valid to pay the expiation to a single person; rather, it must be distributed among ten needy persons, as is the view of the majority of scholars, and this is supported by the apparent meaning of Allah's saying: "So its expiation is the feeding of ten needy people."
