Is it commendable to make a condition at the time of assuming ihram for everyone who intends to perform Hajj or Umrah?

Scholars differed regarding the permissibility of making a condition (ishtirat) in Hajj. Some prohibited it absolutely, because the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, did not make a condition in his Hajj and Umrah, nor did he guide people to do so. Others permitted it absolutely and deemed it desirable at the time of assuming ihram to facilitate exiting ihram in case of an impediment. Still others restricted it to fearing an impediment.

The correct view is that making a condition is not prescribed unless the pilgrim in ihram fears an impediment that would prevent him from completing his rituals, such as a severe illness, based on the hadith of Dhuba’ah bint Az-Zubair, may Allah be pleased with her, when the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, allowed her to make a condition because she was complaining (ill). As for one who does not fear an impediment, he should not make a condition.
