What is the ruling on training a Muslim female doctor in Britain on assisted pregnancy techniques and artificial insemination, given the existence of cases of egg and sperm donation that may occur between non-spouses, knowing that the doctor may not know their source, and that training in this field is necessary to establish a fertility treatment department in her country that adheres to Sharia controls?

Divine laws were revealed to preserve the six necessities: religion, self, intellect, lineage, honor, and property. Allah has legislated various rulings to preserve them and has promised punishment for those who squander them. Artificial insemination contributes to the loss of honor and lineage, and its forbidden forms are numerous according to Islamic law.

The first five forms of artificial insemination (such as inseminating an ovum that is not the wife's with the husband's sperm and implanting it in the wife's womb; or inseminating the wife's ovum with a foreign sperm; or implanting the zygote in the womb of a volunteer; or inseminating a foreign ovum with a foreign sperm and implanting it in the wife's womb; or implanting the zygote in the womb of her co-wife) are all strictly forbidden by Islamic law, either intrinsically or due to the resulting mixing of lineages and the loss of motherhood. If the wife becomes pregnant from two foreign seminal fluids, or from her ovum and foreign seminal fluid, then it is an illegitimate pregnancy, forbidden intrinsically.

As for insemination where the ovum and sperm are from the husband and wife, and it is injected into the wife's own womb, scholars have differed regarding it. Some have prohibited it, while others have permitted it with conditions, with everyone agreeing on the existence of risks and concerns.

Therefore, it is not permissible to directly engage in what Allah Almighty has forbidden, even if it has a legitimate intention. She should offer whatever excuses she can to avoid falling into this forbidden act, which contributes to the loss of lineages and honor.
