Is it permissible, Islamically, for parents to register an apartment, with the agreement that its rent will go to the children, to one of the children over the others without justification or consulting them?
Justice must be observed among children in giving gifts, and it is not permissible to favor some over others, due to the Prophet’s (peace be upon him) prohibition of favoritism and his prohibition of injustice, as in the Hadith of Nu'man ibn Bashir. What a parent spends on the marriage of his son or daughter is considered expenditure (nafaqah) and not a gift ('atiyah), so equality is not obligatory in it; rather, one should spend on those in need. It is obligatory for parents to be just among their children, and it is preferable for a male to be given double the share of a female in gifts, or for them to divide it equally between them if this satisfies the parents and resolves the issue.
