How did the polytheists in the time of the Prophet, peace be upon him, believe in God yet not believe in the Last Day?

Belief in the existence of God does not necessitate belief in His power, knowledge, and perfection. The belief of the polytheists of Arabia was similar, as they acknowledged the Creator but were ignorant of His attributes and denied His power to resurrect. Those who deny the resurrection can be categorized into three types: atheists who denied the Creator, those who acknowledged His existence but denied the resurrection, like some Arabs, and those who believed in the معاد (Hereafter/Return) but not in the prescribed Islamic manner.
