Is addressing jinn, angels, or the dead, such as "O jinn, are you here?" or "O angel, are you here?" considered major shirk, even if it does not involve seeking help, making a request, or relying upon them?

Addressing or communicating with jinn or angels is not legislated. They belong to the unseen world; they see us, but we do not see them, and they hear us, but we do not hear them. Such actions open the door to misgivings. What is legislated regarding the deceased is to visit them, greet them, and supplicate for them.

Addressing a jinn, angel, or deceased person becomes polytheism (shirk) if it involves supplicating to them with a request, such as seeking refuge with jinn or seeking their help, as Allah says: (And indeed, there were men among mankind who took refuge in men among the jinn, so they [only] increased them in burden) (Al-Jinn/6). And Allah says: (And who is more astray than he who invokes besides Allah those who will not respond to him until the Day of Resurrection and who are unaware of their invocation) (Al-Ahqaf/5).

Therefore, supplicating to jinn or angels is polytheism, and addressing them without supplication is not permissible because it is a means to polytheism.
