Did the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, die or was he martyred by Jewish poison? And how do we reconcile his statement about feeling his aorta being severed with the Almighty’s saying: ﴿And if he had made up some sayings against Us (44) We would certainly have seized him by the right hand (45) Then We would certainly have severed his aorta﴾?

Firstly: The Effect of Poison on His Death (peace be upon him): A group of scholars have explicitly stated that Allah Almighty honored His Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) with martyrdom, because his death was due to the effect of the poison he ate on the Day of Khaybar, as narrated by Anas and Aisha (may Allah be pleased with them).

Secondly: The Meaning of Allah Almighty's Saying: (We would surely have seized him by the right hand Then We would surely have cut off his aorta): These verses in Surah Al-Haqqah affirm that the Quran is a revelation from Allah, and the Noble Messenger (peace be upon him) conveyed it with truthfulness and trustworthiness. Had the Messenger falsely attributed anything to Allah—and far be it from him to do so—Allah would have swiftly punished him and destroyed him, and no one would have been able to prevent it.

Indeed, Allah did not swiftly punish His Prophet, nor did He strike him down; rather, He supported and aided him. This is conclusive proof that no false attribution or lie ever emanated from him. It is sheer madness to say that after conveying the religion truthfully, he would then lie about Allah. Ibn Taymiyyah said: Allah does not support a liar with miracles, nor does He grant a false claimant to prophecy such a prolonged respite and support.

Among the miracles as well is that Allah Almighty informed the Prophet (peace be upon him) that the ewe was poisoned and protected him from immediate death, whereas his companion Al-Bara' ibn Ma'rur (may Allah be pleased with him) died. The "wateen" (وتين) in the verse refers to the main artery that supplies the body, and it is different from the "abhaar" (أبهر) which the Prophet (peace be upon him) mentioned during the illness from which he died.

In conclusion, Allah the Almighty does not equate the truthful with the liar. He reveals the truthfulness of the Prophets and grants them victory, and He exposes the lies of the liars and humiliates them. Therefore, the victory and support that our Prophet (peace be upon him) received are evidence of his truthfulness and prophethood.
