The answer

The Almighty said: ﴿The recompense for an evil is an evil like it. But whoever pardons and makes reconciliation – his reward is due from Allah. Indeed, He does not like transgressors.﴾ The meaning of the verse is that forgiving the oppressor and not responding to evil in kind brings reward from Allah. Forgiveness is among the righteous deeds; it is forsaking one's right seeking Allah’s pleasure. And "makes reconciliation" means waiving one's right and responding to evil with good. Combining forgiveness and reconciliation requires great patience and indicates immense fortune.
