Does God afflict with murder those who rejoice and gloat when they hear of a human being's murder, and forget to show compassion?

There is no legal basis for the saying that whoever hears of someone's misfortune and forgets to seek God's grace will be afflicted with a similar misfortune. Rather, it has been mentioned in some hadiths that gloating over someone's misfortune can be a cause for the gloater to be afflicted.
