Is it permissible to shorten the beard to obtain a high governmental position, with the intention of helping Muslims in the country and other Islamic countries?
The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, commanded that the beard be grown and made full. However, if shortening the beard will help you attain a high position through which you can assist Muslims and influence decision-makers, then you are permitted to shorten it to the extent of the necessity. Indeed, Sheikh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah permitted a governor to remain in a position where he collects wealth through injustice if he mitigates injustice for the people and prevents others from increasing injustice, because his governance is better and more beneficial for Muslims. Scholars have permitted similar matters for great benefits. You must grow your beard fully when you are able to do so.
