Did the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, divorce one of his wives, and did he take her back? If he did not take her back, did she marry after him? And did this occur before the revelation of the verse prohibiting marriage to the wives of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him?

The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, divorced some of his wives before consummating the marriage with them, such as the daughter of Al-Jawn, and no one married her after him. He also divorced some of his wives after consummating the marriage with them, such as Hafsa, may Allah be pleased with her, and then he took her back.

The wives of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, after his death fall into three categories: 1. Those from whom he passed away: It is forbidden for anyone else to marry them, because they are his wives in this world and the Hereafter, and they are the Mothers of the Believers. 2. Those he divorced before consummating the marriage with them: It is permissible for others to marry them. An example of this is Qaylah bint Al-Ash'ath, with whom the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, contracted marriage but did not consummate it. Then Ikrimah ibn Abi Jahl married her after the Prophet’s death, peace and blessings be upon him. 3. Those he divorced after consummating the marriage with them during his lifetime: Scholars have differed regarding the permissibility of others marrying them.
