Is a relationship between a young man and a young woman, limited to correspondence for the purpose of marriage, permissible or forbidden, especially if the young woman rejects suitors because of him?

Correspondence and communication between the sexes are a gateway to fitna (temptation/strife), and you did well by cutting off communication with this young man. We hope that the correspondence will also cease, as it is one of the greatest gateways to corruption. There is no harm in the heart inclining towards a specific person with the intention of marriage if it is due to a previous acquaintance or kinship, and not due to impermissible mixing, looking, or conversation, while adhering to the limits set by Allah. Ibn Al-Qayyim said: "If love occurs due to an permissible reason, its possessor is not blamed for it." Sheikh Ibn 'Uthaymeen advised against direct communication between a man and a woman; rather, the guardian must be informed. Our advice to you is to completely stop corresponding with this young man and to inform him to propose to you through your guardian if he desires marriage. Delaying marriage might harm you, and there might be good for you in other suitors.
